I don’t even like Smirnoff Ice!” The retail assistant from Darlington, Co Durham, added: “The drink sellers are totally unprepared. “I’ve paid £80 for my ticket and they are charging £2.50 for a bottle of water. It's encouraging people who don’t normally drink alcohol to do it.” Fleet consultant Rory Hunter, 22, also from Darlington, said: “There were water stand pipes but the queue for each one went on for miles. “Who is going to waste their entire day at a music festival queuing for water. “People may have been drinking beer, lager and whisky at festivals in the past but lots of the young guys now don’t drink. “Those who don’t want alcohol have been left high and dry.” Council admin worker Jenni Taylor, 20, also from Darlington, said: “I think organisers of events have to realise lots of people these days don't drink alcohol. “It would be wrong if people were punished for it.” Lucy Jones, 18, a student from Leeds, added: “Me and my mates spent most of the taking it turns queuing for water. “We had a rota going. I couldn’t get a lemonade anywhere.” One festival bar worker said: “We ran out of Pepsi at 3pm and we still had eight hours to go! “They promised fresh supplies but we were still waiting three hours later. “Lots if the kids just wanted soft drinks and in the heat many were desperate. Some were offering a tenner for a lemonade but it made no difference. We just didn’t have any to give.” Last month we revealed how alcohol-free beer is being rolled out on draft in pubs nationwide because more and more Brits go teetotal. Heineken is supplying its alcohol-free brand `0.0' on tap to 1,500 bars. The City Pub Group, which has 44 across the south of England and Wales, is stocking it along with Brewdog's booze-free Nanny State craft ale and Adnams's low-alcohol version of its Ghost Ship ale. Wetherspoons is planning a `big push' of alcohol-free beer in its 900 pubs over the next few weeks. Pepsi is currently the biggest-selling drink sold on draught in its bars ahead of any beer.
